About FenceBudget

FenceBudget is a set of free calculators for people planning a fence. Enter your fence and you get a materials list you can take to the store, with a cost estimate for doing it yourself or hiring a pro.

Why we built it

Most fence calculators multiply length by a price per foot and stop there. That leaves out the questions that matter on the day you buy materials. How many posts? How many bags of concrete? How many pickets, with extra for bad boards? What changes when you add a gate or a corner? FenceBudget answers those questions one line at a time.

How the numbers are calculated

The calculator uses common building rules: post spacing, posts set one third of the fence height into the ground, round post holes filled with concrete, rails per section by fence height, and picket counts from the width each board covers. Every rule is explained on the fence cost calculator page, so you can check any number yourself.

Default prices are typical US home center prices, reviewed in October 2026. Prices vary a lot by region and season, so every unit price can be changed. Your prices are saved in your own browser only.

Your data

All calculations run in your browser. You do not need an account, and we do not collect the details of your fence. See the privacy policy for details.

Limits of an estimate

An online calculator cannot see your yard. Slopes, rocky soil, tree roots, old fence removal, permits and delivery all change the final cost. Use the result to plan and compare options, then confirm with your supplier or installer. Always call 811 before you dig, and check local codes, HOA rules and property lines.
